It was Sunday night and I was extremely frazzled and stressed. I had missed my English class the previous Monday for a doctor’s appointment. During that class we learned how to make a blog on the new blog site. I attempted to make a blog site at home, which turned out to be a complete failure because I didn’t have any help and I was confused. I was worried about what I was going to write for the assignment and how I was going to post it before class the next day.
My mom had just come home from a trip to Pennsylvania. It was a difficult weekend for her because she went to see her mom who had just suffered a stroke. I was trying to be nice to her because I hadn’t seen her for a couple of days. We were also celebrating my mom’s birthday that night and I had made her favorite cake: carrot cake with cream cheese icing.
I was at the computer trying to fix the blog site so I could have enough time to brainstorm about what I was going to write for the assignment. I was clicking on random links off of the home page. I couldn’t figure out how to change my URL and how to make my teacher an administrator of my page. As time went by I got more and more desperate. I decided I would just start over and make a new blog. Unfortunately, the site wouldn’t let me make a new account because I already had one account for my email address. This just about put me over the edge but then I found a way to delete the site that I had created. I pressed the ‘delete this site’ button. Then a page came up that said an error occurred and the page was not deleted. I was really angry at the site for being so confusing and complicated.
Just as I got that message on the computer screen, I heard my mom yell at the dog. Riley our overly enthusiastic Irish Setter had just eaten one-half of the cake I had made for my mom. I was so mad at the stupid dog, how selfish to eat half of the cake! Even my mom was mad at the dog and she usually sided with him in arguments. I was upset that the birthday present that I worked so hard to make for my mom was eaten. I developed a headache, which got worse when my mom thought she could help figure out the blog site. My mom has never been known for her technological skills and it was not the time for her to learn.
She was telling me what to do and I knew she wasn’t helping because I had tried everything. Some tension rose and I really didn’t want to be mean to my mom on her birthday so I told her I could figure it out on my own. When she left I was in a worse place than before. The cake was eaten, the blog site still wasn’t working, and I had a feeling that my mom was annoyed with me for being so obstinate. All these situations lead to me being very angry and sad. Could the night get any worse? It seems so silly, getting worked up about the stubborn website and my helpful mom and my stupid selfish dog. But caught up in the moment, it was so frustrating.
After I calmed down, I figured out how to make a new site, just using the same account. Later that night, my family enjoyed the other half of the cake I made, and my dog also paid for his selfishness when he got sick, my mom was very happy with her presents and especially appreciated the cake. We had a great time as a family. The real reward was when I realized that all this stress and anxiety would make the perfect topic for my English paper.
