WA-2 final draft

Picking apples with the cool wind making your nose raw while drinking hot chocolate to keep warm is one of the images I get in my mind when I think of fall. Everything about fall makes me excited from the leaves changing colors, windy afternoons, the baking that happens in my house, and the fun bonfires. I look forward to fall as a transition from the bustling and energetic summer to the school year, a time to focus and be immersed in school work and such. Fall is such a delightful time of year especially in Virginia. It is the best season because of the flavorful food, ideal weather, and fun activities that come with it.

Some of my favorite fall foods include pumpkin and apple. On cool early mornings, sometimes I go to Starbucks and get a pumpkin spice latte and a pumpkin scone. Not to mention I love the delicious pumpkin pie my mom makes for thanksgiving dessert. Apples make me think of fall too. I cannot go through fall with out having apples prepared in various ways. The apples are so fresh and ripe and taste crisp but juicy at the same time. I love cold apple cider on a warm afternoon when I get home from school; it quenches my thirst and tastes so good when the refreshing taste passes through my mouth. And I like apple cider hot on a cool and windy night to warm me up. Fall is also the primetime for hot homemade chunky applesauce with ginger and cinnamon.

The weather of fall is optimal. When you first wake up the grass outside is wet with morning dew. I love those afternoons where I go outside and the cool crisp breeze mixed with the sun shining down creates the perfect temperature. When I walk to the end of the driveway to get the mail I crunch the recently fallen crisp orange leaves. Rabbits and deer scurry through the empty woods with barren trees. In the evening the air is chilly and the wind gets stronger, through the empty trees you can see the yellow harvest moon beaming down on the leaves that are picked up by the wind and thrown around. And while all of this is happening you are cuddled up in bed with a hot cup of tea. All of the pleasant fall weather invites me to be active outside. It is time to go to the orchard to pick apples or play soccer in the cool weather.

In the morning, I love get under balnkets and laying in front of the dying fire. The mornings are so beautiful, that a hot air balloon ride is the thing to do. From above everything you can look around and are able to appreciate the colors and weather of fall. Picking apple is a great idea for fall afternoons. If you go up to Carter’s Mountain, you can pick your own apples and pumpkins and when you are done you can drink hot apple cider and eat apple donuts while once more admiring the scenery. At night it is a perfect time to look at the stars with your family. Or you can warm up around a bonfire, roasting marshmallows with your friends.

Fall is a refreshing, fun and extremely pleasant time of year. It is time to start school and get focused on things. But one must not forget to appreciate the weather food and activities that come with it.
